Students are generally needed to have studied GCSEs in class and then go on to take levels . Where scholars have pursued their schooling to a level standard, the following step is to apply for a one year Foundation program. These courses supply a broad art and design experience, where time is spent in preparation for application to a selected degree and finalising portfolio work appropriate for submission and / or interview to an undergraduate course. Some Foundation courses permit scholars to specialize in their selected area of design in the final term of the program. Scholars are inspired to analyze the range of courses on offer and are steered thru the application process.
At the end of a standard foundation year, most graduates move on to either a two-year HND (Higher State Diploma) or a 3 or 4 year BA Honors course. Most BA courses take 3 years to finish, but some establishments supply a four-year sandwich course. This usually includes up to 12 months working on economic placement, either as a one year block or as 2 6 month periods. A considerable number of three-year BA courses also include a short placement period in the curriculum, while all fashion courses dedicate time to working with the fashion industry in the shape of bankrolled projects, visits or visiting lecturers.
In order to gain a place on a common course you’ll need a good portfolio which demonstrates your capability in drawing, design development, problem unscrambling, color work and interest in fashion. Some courses may want to see examples of written work like an essay or report, and some staff may want to interview you by phone. Courses may have different entry needs and rules, therefore if at all possible, you check prospectus info or course leaflets.
Some BA courses will enable you entry direct to the second year if you have either equivalent to an HND already, or you have previous experience inside the clothes industry. Again, you check with the courses you favor. You also should be able to submit your portfolio or ‘slides ‘ instead of posting the first work to Britain.
